Auto transmission doesn't engage
The auto transmission on my 1995 Bongo will occasionally not engage the selected gear. The transmission lever does not seem to lock in the selected position and pushing the throttle results in revs but with no drive. Worse still, if I park the Bongo using reverse and then move to park when i've finished, the autobox carries on sounding the alarm as if it doesn't realise that i've selected another a gear. Moving the transmission lever through the ratios will sometimes correct the problem. The problem started immediately after a Bongo friendly mechanic replaced the cam belt, changed the diff oil and adjusted the throttle cable. Is there likely to be a connection.
Re: Auto transmission doesn't engage
I know very little about this sort of thing... But, sounds/reads like yer occasionally in neutral when in drive & reverse when in park...?
I'd say something was disturbed or adjusted..... Cable 46-300 i think does run in the throttle cable direction..? http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html
But i may be way off...! Just banging this up the list so it gets spotted by an auto box techie..!
Where are you roughly based??

Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

The autobox control cable (on the engine cover) would be disturbed while fitting the cambelt - take it back to the repairer - the cable may be partially trapped or kinked

Thanks fellas. I live near Kettering in Northants. I'll go back to my Bongo mechanic with this information---any further posts that might give him a clue would be more than welcome.
