Has anyone checked the valve timing isn't a tooth out? Has the cambelt been checked recently?

with regards to intercooler,is this something that is worth cleaning now and again or best to leave it if running ok?

Hi all this bongo is going to be the death of me.!!!!!!! Had a friend drive it today and he seems to think that the turbos is not coming in like it should. I have checked this at the start and it was not the case. Can the turbo intermitantly work or colud it be seized. How do i check this. Also as mentioned previously the last owner had some work done on the turbo could he have had the wrong turbo fitted and how can i check if its the right turbo that has been fitted.

If you unbolt the wastegate actuator, you should be able to move the whole actuator and push / pull it open & closed. That's probably the easiest way. You might need to remove the heatshield from the manifold.

Yes that acuator moves ok but the rod is stiff.

With it all assembled, you should be able to move the rod in and out of the actuator, but it will be stiff so you'll need to grip it with pliers or possibly molegrips (not nice, nasty scratches) since you will be moving the insides of the actuator.
If you dismount the actuator, you should be able to operate the wastegate flap by moving the whole assembly back & forwards. This shouldn't be stiff. It's a very rudimentary flap over a hole, with a hinge.

Yes the flap moves ok and the rod moves with pliers.

This definitely sounds like something is wrong with the turbo or the piping to it. It sounds like you're effectively driving a non-turbo diesel...
Have you checked the turbo compressor wheel for excess play. Back in my days of turboed cars I remember a bit of side to side movement (eg wiggling side to side) is ok, but any in or out movement is bad.
Just unclip and POP off the main air intake from the turbo to check this.

Yes have taken pipe off and the impleller seems fine and no movement on the shaft.

Next I suppose then is to pipe in a boost gauge - should be easy. You really need to see if the turbo is supplying enough (and more importantly constant) boost. No idea what psi its supposed to provide from factory though...

I got a turbo gauge fitted, reading PSI.... Can let you know tomorrow if you like, if it's any help?
