Got a bit of a leak round the inlet manifold on no 1 cylinder.
All the bolts seem tight so wondering where this is coming from.
Its running fine so just wondering if the pipes need a good clean out.
Any ideas please.

Looks like the usual egr inspired crud seeping out, may be time to blank it if it's not already & clean out the manifold & pipework. Could be crud getting into the air intake system from the rocker cover vent pipe that feeds in the suction side of the air inlet. If this looks likely, then it'd be an idea to look at cleaning out the intercooler & pipework too, not sure if the egr isn't doing what it should if it would allow oil & crud to flow back against the air flow into the intercooler from that direction?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

This is what Harry's old inlet manifold looked like inside

I may have a similar issue - small amount of oil has pooled in the right hand couple of glow plug wells. Don't know enough to confirm the cause, though.
[Edit] and the right hand side of the engine there just all looks a bit wet/manky.

Fairly common issue with the diesel bongo TBH, I've seen more with that leak than without

OK thanks Kirsty, pretty much confirmed what I thought it might be.
Ive just got some blanking plates from Allans so I'll fit them and clean everything out when we get back from our hols.
Incidentally, it looks a lot easier to fit the blanking plates on the later Bongos, ours is 2001, all the bolts easily gettable without skimmed knuckles or taking stuff off. Ill put some pictures up when I do it.

ive got no real evidence of this but check the cam front seal, you will have to remove the timing cover, and maybe the cover behind the pulleys which is a little annoying just to check, but you may see a teltale leak line from there.
if you blank of the egr, from what ive seen this doesnt stop this gunk.
the inlet manifold is sucking in at this point so shouldnt really leak here outwards.
could try pulling the rocker/crankcase breather off and see if the engine is chuffing(valve stem seals).

If the engine is "sucking" at that point, what about when the turbo is spooled up? Isn't that the whole point of the turbo, that it pressurises the inlet air?
Worth checking the rocker gasket too. What oil are you using?

Plus I suspect it "seeps" when it's sat doing nowt if there's crud in there

Thanks Ady & Kirsty.
I'll have good look at it when we get back from holiday, not got time to take it to bits and get it back together before we go.
