Hi
We recently bought our first Bongo and took it on a trip this summer.
We went down to Rome through Switzerland which was fantastic but unfortunately got broken into! Are they easy to break into? If so, does anyone know of a better lock system that we could put on? or could anyone recommend a good security system?
Thanks
Caroline

Re: re security
One of the good things about Japan is that there is very low incidence of car crime.
Unfortunately that means that they don't spend much time or investment on car security.
I'm obviously not going to go into detail on a forum, but I could break into my own Bongo in about 5 seconds without any special tools, and cause no damage.
Best bet would be to find a car security specialist (do they exist?) and see what they reckon. I'm sure you could fit secondary deadlocks quite easily.

Re: re security
Im very sorry to hear you got broken into! I suspect the bongo locks aren't great, as car crime is pretty low in Japan. I saw a bongo last week with no locks on it whatsoever (well, no lock barrels at least) A Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser had been fitted, so the only use for the key was for in the actual ignition... If you PM me i'll give you the contact number for more detailed information should you require it.

Re: re security
Parked up at Download festival next to a nice T5 with a pop-top this year, and the owner managed to lock his keys inside. Luckily he had his roof up, and between us we managed to get a sharp knife, and a spare tent pole with a tent peg gaffer taped onto the end. He got in, but had to cut the stitching round the 'window' in the roof tent.
I did look at getting in the way I would with the Bongo, but it was a non-starter.

Re: re security
The locks are more refined with more "fingers" on newer motors...
