Central Locking Problem

Hi Chaps,

Our 2.5 diesel bongo's central locking seems to have developed a fault. We had a remote alarm installed a couple of years ago (Toad) which couples with the central locking i.e. you hit the arm button and all the doors remotely lock and the alarm is set.

Of late the drivers door button won't fully depress when you try to activate the alarm, (feels like something is obstructing it but there isnt). As a result the rest of the system seems to be in dissaray. I can set the alarm but the doors wont lock and vice versa.

I've had the door panel off but can't see any obvious obstructions. Is this be something to do with the remote solenoid if that's what it's called, i.e. the black box on the end of the door button rod?

Anybody got any ideas where I go from here?

What happens if you lock the driver's door with the key - do all the other doors lock? If they do, what happens when you then then arm the alarm (ie. with the doors already locked) and then un-arm it - do all the doors then unlock remotely?

Look at the rod linkage from the solenoid to the connection on the door button rod, which essentially drives the locking mechanism on the driver door up & down.. It may be catching on the window mechanism..?

Has the solenoid come loose from constant door slamming, thus not driving the rod & pushing against itself??

If none of the above?

The actual solenoid may well be shot...? A cheap replacement!

Thanks for the quick replies chaps. In answer to some of your questions:-

If I lock the driver's door with the key, yes all the other doors lock, (the drivers door only locked once I'd removed the square shape button leaving the linkage visible in the opening). However, when I arm the alarm the drivers door usually unlocks itself, (but not the others). When I say 'usually' sometimes it does remain locked with the alarm armed but this is an exception.

When I disarm the alarm all the locks seem to unlock correctly. I can't see the linkage catching on the window mechanism and the solenoid seems to be working albeit not correctly. It doesn't seem to move enough to operate the lock.

Looks like a dodgey solenoid to me

It certainly seems that a new solenoid is the next port of call.

Anyone know where I can get hold of a solenoid. Have tried ebay and a few parts suppliers to no avail.

Just about anywhere, ebay, Maplins etc you just need a central locking solenoid, doesn't need to be a Mazda Bongo specific part, most don't have a remote central locking facility to start with & don't have a solenoid in the drivers door, it's usually an aftermarket job. If it is at fault, then if you put an ask on the stuf wanted section if someone doesn't offer on up on this thread, someone may well have one spare from a remote central locking kit.
Could just be it needs a bit of a firkle, there's a factsheet in the paid up club members area on fitting remote central locking that may help in seeing what may be wrong.
