VENICE TRIP Friday 9th Sept

Post by mentaliss » Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:50 am

Were off this Friday to Venice, and its the first time the wife and I have ever done this sort of holiday.
We purchased an all white Aero bongo, standard eight seater July end, installed a rear conversion, fitted a Tow bar, bought a "TowBox" from Spain, replaced the Jap radio with a Pioneer AVH-3300,
bought a Garmin 2464LT Sat nav....... and it goes on and on, wallett has got much lighter!
Anyway, wondering if any of you use CB radios as a form of keeping in touch with fellow bongomytes?

Good luck on your drive. 'fraid we won't be joining you!

I've got a CB in mine - I installed a whip on a gutter mount right at the back o/s. Never got another Bongonaut on it, but was parked up on the Isle of Skye listening to Gloucester converse with Isle of Lewis. It's more there for entertainment when I'm parked up. Was planning to make a steel mount to go under a wheel for the half-wave Antron, but haven't quite got round to it.

I could disguise it as a flagpole!

Matt.

What route are you planning to Venice?

We went in Aug 2010, down through France, over the highest pass in the alps (Col d'Iseran - 2800m) into Italy them along the lakes. Decent campsite at "Camping Jolly", Mestre, just outside Venice. €2 shuttle bus into Venice.

From there, we went round the corner at Trieste into Slovenia for a couple of days - Ljubljana and Lake Bled. Both recommended. Then Austria, Germany (Mosel Valley - awesome), Belgium and back to France again.

Brilliant trip, and certainly a wallet emptier.

Enjoy!

Well there appears to be two main routes? but not sure, south of Lille or the Brugge? have bought a new garmin sat nav to help but, do i input it to go the 'quickest route' or the 'shortest', people opinons vary on this subject, is it best to take the tunnel in 'Swiss' as it can work out cheaper than going over the 'top'....... higher engine rev's when climming = more fuel ( 2.0 Ltr bongo)
