Continental Headlights again, sorry

Having failed the Portuguese MOT because the deflectors fitted to get it matriculated ceased to be legal in 2005 (clearly some skulduggery to get through that test ) so will need to fit proper LHD lights.

Has any one else fitted the SEA Ibiza units and if yes can they confirm the actual car the units come from. I am pretty sure my garage could fit them if we have the right ones.

Also Headlamp Shop mentioned on the Datasheet offer a pair of Astra units, no info on actual model has any one fitted them and if so any comments.

I am also waiting for more info from Complet Motoring Solutions in Spain, also mentioned on the datasheet, who only fit replacement units and do not supply kits, any one any experience of them or know where in Spain they are, there is no location info on their website.

The only saving grace is that I appear to have 30 days to fix it and can drive the car because it is not deemed dangerous.

They have LHD Bongo's yes the Friendee in the Philippines ..... might have units there for sale...

Update on Complete Motoring Solutions, they will only convert vehicles taken to their works in Alicante which is not really an option for me or I suspect mosrt Bongo owners

These people might be worth a call,giving them the dimensions of the lamps,I think the early MK1 Seat Ibiza could be a close fit.

I am already intouch with them, see above, they suggest an Astra unit but can give no more comment than that they have supplied 2 sets and have had no complaint

If Mazda make a LHD version for the Philipines it may be possible to see if a UK Mazda dealer could source some LHD units. I doubt if a Portuguese dealer would be able to - at least UK dealers do get enquiries for parts. I got my shocks from the one in Oxford so if I get a chance I'll call in and ask - I need to enquire about something I need so it will be a double excuse to call in.

You'll need to chop a bit out of your grille, as the Opel Astra circa '94 headlight is 1/2 inch longer at the bottom at the centre edge...also the centre edge is convex on the Astra, and concave on the Bongo, and you'll need to chop some of the mounting lugs off the Astra lamp...otherwise, they should be a reasonable fit.....just so happened I had an Astra and a Bongo at the same time....

Thanks for that, the first really positive info. The headlamp shop are planning on sending me dimensions and photos tomorrow. The chap at the garage seems to be a bit of a can-do guy so od bits of fitting like that should be OK. All very annoying when everything else was OK.

If the "Guy at the garage" is handy, it's a breeze to make them fit...and you may be able to re-shape the grille at the edge with a heat gun/ blow-lamp...extra lugs for headlight mounting can be bonded on to the lamp...
I actually made a template of the Bongo shape, and put it over the Astra I had...only a small amount of work needed...I have intended to fit some to my Bongo, but it passes each year with beam benders, as it went through registration with them on...I just buy a new set each year!
If you find that the join between the side-lamp and the new lens aren't to your liking, (there is hardly any difference), then a squeeze of clear silicon will join them nicely, and smooth off with a lolly stick, masking the edges of both units!

A point that as always bemused me is that some motors like the Mazda Bongo ... Toyota Estima, are made solely for the Japanese market and not for export ...

So why are some of the labelling on Stickers ... controls etc; in English ..??

It seems a a bit like marking Reliant Robin switches in Japanese ..!!

Because the switches are not solely Bongo switches, and are used on a variety of models which are exported.At least we are lucky that they are not in American, otherwise a light switch might be labeled "Lightificationizator", and Mazda would be regularly running out of white ink , causing a run on the chemicals used, necessitating an increase in mining for the ore bearing the metal salts from which the ink is made, thus increasing pollution from said mining, leading to Governments worldwide demanding pollution be decreased, thus having a knock-on effect on the usage of cars, and governments increasing tax on fuel as a "So-called" direct response to pollution levels, in an apparent bid to reduce mileage of the average user, whereas we know that in reality they are just a mean bunch of money-grabbing old bunch of fluff-bags intent on reducing the earnings of "Mr. Average", reducing his status to the realms of "Surfdom" where he belongs

Ask a simple question and ... ..!!

It's not only switches but some specific labels are in English like tyre pressures ... also on my Estima some of the heater / dash panels 'instructions' are in English ... and I doubt if the moulding are used on any other vehicle ..
