V6 cutting out. (thanks Simon Jones )

Post by joca » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:27 pm

Thank you Simon. I have removed the petrol cap as you sugested and the Bongo is running well again, I have coverd 200 miles and no probs. I am now trying it on LPG.
I have run for 20 miles no probs. Longer run needed yes. So it looks like a blocked breather do you or any other Bongonaught no how to clear. Thank you and other Bongo Fury Forum members for thier help. John

try a wash out with a detergent and a hot water soak, doesnt always work but its worth a try.

sorry--- i was on about the cap, wash the cap, it has a valve in the top, or should have if its original. this cap lets air in as fuel is used from the tank, but stops fuel spilling out if vehicle overturns.
the filler pipe/s are also worth checking, its actually several pipes, one filler for the nozzle and another smaller pipe , check the smaller is not blocked. kids bike pump maybe, not compressed air from a big compressor  #-o .

Glad to hear that you've hopefully got to the bottom of the problem. I'm not sure if the cap itself is vented or whether there is some form of breather on the tank. I was taking a look under the van the other week an did notice what seemed to be a black rubber pipe with a plastic end piece clipped to the chassis.

I may be wrong..?!! But there looks like three breather outlets from the top of the tank...? (Both ends & the middle where the sender is..?) http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... o=.html#20

Hastening to add... either end outlets to one point under the floor pan?? The sender breather goes to the filler hose..??? :? :?

Petrol pipework is a bit different: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

The diesel version does seem to have the breather unit I mentioned earlier. See part 42-590a on here:

I'm kind of versed in the diesel fuel line... (I replaced all the rubber on mine a little while back.)

:D

It's interesting looking at the diagrams for petrol and diesel as there are quite a few differences. The petrol tank has those extra holes and pipework that Jaylee's link shows. Worth bearing that in mind if anyone needed to get a replacement tank as they are not interchangeable.

The little breather on the chassis (diesel) could potentially get blocked up when Waxoyling, so possibly worth masking it off before starting the job.
