Thanks NB.
Had a good dig around and it turned out to be a loose connection on the altenator. Thankfully something simple for a change.

Re: possible alternator problem ??
not had chance to have a proper look the engine to chassis earth lead yet as wont get chance till weekend, bought new alternator anyway just in case, also will look at the vacuum solenoids. But i definitely have concerns with the A/C pump it make a really load clonk that i can feel when i first switch the A/C on, no other noises yet but it drags the revs and voltage down quite a bit so may be starting to seize up.
will keep you informed, any other ideas welcomed

And the cream doughnut goes to Jaylee,
to be fair i purchased one anyway just in case it was that, but i checked all the other suggestions.
the funny thing was i was not getting any vacuum on the throttle accuator either, so thought i was going to have to swap solenoid valves
decided to fit the alternator to get that out the way, rechecked the voltages with an multimeter and all as they should be, tried the A/C and no rev crash (dont quite understand why that happens, may be somthing to do with the CPU box??)
goes round the other side to have another fiddle with the pipes and would you believe it the accuator's now working, glad i fitted the alternator first
thought i would replace a blown bulb in the dash binnacle and wahhay, my bongo went up in value-------- By 1 Yen---
