At the end of July we are going to Norway, again, to spend a week in Sandefjord and two weeks on the Northern part of the Hardangar Vida for some walking and nature. Wild camping is on the agenda as it is allowed.

That sounds fantastic, hope to hear more when you have been I went on a cruise up the Fjiords about 20 years ago.... it only cost about £50 for four nights..... only problem was it was on 6th December, so it was dark most of the time saw some lovely twinkling lights from the little fishing towns we sailed past Fortunately they kept the lights on most of the night in the bar as well

Change of plan, Majorca is off the itinerary for this year so it will be Bongoing in the UK

Haven't discussed this with the others yet but I have my eyes on Jurassic Coast (Dorset) and New Forest (with a visit to Beaulieu) for a few days; North Wales (never been); Northumberland (but I know I won't get my way this year) and possibly Scilly (without the Bongo, of course).

Fairly confident I'll win on the New Forest/Beaulieu option (especially if I throw in the Museum of Army Flying, Bovington and Yeovilton as being in the wider vicinity ) I think mentioning Peppa Pig World too would probaby be pushing my luck

How do you get to Norway? Ferry direct across or drive up from Holland/France/Belgium through Denmark, Sweden etc.
Just asking as I'm considering going up through Sweden to the far North past Tromso possibly next year or year after to see the Northern Lights.

This year I think we're off to the Belgian Grand Prix and then make our way wandering back down through France back to the Pyrenees. Probably stop off for a while round the Clermont Ferrand area to have another look at the volcanos.

We've costed it very carefully When you weigh in the cost of diesel and two overnights the most economical way is Harwich - Esbjerg then Hirtshalls - Larvik. Remembering to buy spirits in UK and wine and beer in Denmark, you won't get much change from £5 for 2 halves of lager in Norway! . Also need to have a Scandinavian camping card - cost about £12. unfortunately, the exchange rate is against us. It was, for many years about 11 Norwegian Kroner to the £ but now is just over 8. Fortunately we have a copper or two in a bank in Norway.

Guessed that might be the case. Its a shame that the Newcastle-Norway boat is no more. It would have saved us driving south to go back north. Might have a look at the Hull to Rotterdam ferry and then drive up. Whats the price of fuel over there, is it as bad as the drink?

Brian, you will find an article in March 2012 issue of Practical Motorhome about a trip to Norway from the UK. With the Newcastle Ferry now gone you have to use DFDS from Harwich to Esbjerg then another from Copenhagen to Oslo spending a night in Denmark as the ferries don't link up and are 180 miles apart. I could not work out how many days these people spent there.

The breakdown of costs for the trip were:

Swanage. We went a few years ago, not in a bongo, and loved it. We went every year on family holidays.

Another possible option for Norway is the DFDS Freight service, a direct crossing from Immingham to Brevik, just west of Oslo. Up to a couple of years ago, when I enquired, they would take cars and passengers if there was room (freight gets priority, of course). You cannot book until two or three weeks in advance and even then any last minute urgent freight will get priority. In the end there was a change of plan and I didn't get to Norway that year (or since but hope to go next year).

I don't know if this option is still possible (it only mentions passengers on their website now) but could be worth contacting them....

Look spot on for us. Only about an hour and half from us to Immingham and would save a lot of fuel not having to drive up through Holland, Germany et.

If you come to Poole on Tuesday nights, we have Biker nights on the Quay. Quite stunning to see up to 3,000 motorbikes roaring on and off. Starts unofficially around 3/4 and finishes around 8pm. Best time to go is about 5 to see them piling in.

Thursday nights are Fireworks night in June and July. Excellent nights. Fireworks start at 10pm, but there is plenty to see before hand. Good pub for food is The Portsmouth Hoy on The Quay (Good local ales as well and nice cider)

Me, as usual (Is that good English??) and my family are going to the South of France for a change!!! OK, so we've only been going to the same Villa for the past 6 years. I used to sit and whinge about people who did that, I thought they had no imagination etc etc etc. But you do get comfortable about these things and we do so many different things when we get there.

Besides that, it is the perfect place for my disability, as it means it only takes me 2 minutes to walk into town for the bars, cafes, restaurants, museums etc. So therefore my wife and daughter can go off and do some shopping while I browse the museums and cafes in Aigues Mortes.
