Squeaky roof

Post by hopey » Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:03 pm

When putting the roof up, we get a lot of squeaky like it needs lubricating.
I'm not sure about spraying it with WD40, any tips on whats the best thing to use?

Thanks

I was wondering this.... was on my list of things to ask about :) glad you asked first.

Although going up is fine.. it squeaks when coming down!

I use a can of spray on silicone oil, do the runners and also the gas struts.

I tend to make WD40 my last resort as it its intended to Displace Water and be sticky, but it does also have some lubricating properties but that was never its real purpose! See Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD-40

As geoff says try and stay away from wd40 as it is sticky you may find grit sticks to it and then slowly wears your parts out

I asked this a while back and Allan suggested Lubrice, see link.

I ordered it and have used it on mine and a few others, it's great and it works well.

I used the thin pipe from a wd40 can and it's excellent.

If your in the Sandhurst, Berkshire area you can dro round and use mine, I have a whole can ;)

Hi
Funnily enough, that's something like I have used for some time...I always use white grease, though, WD40 on locks (NEVER USE IT ON STEERING LOCKS)...for steering locks, oil the key and run it in and out a few times, and for gas rams spray silicon spray onto kitchen towel until its soaked, and wipe the moving leg...DON'T spray it everywhere, as you don't want silicon on the roof tent, and too much will wash off, and dribble onto the paint, rendering any paintwork repairs a real beggar of a job....and anywhere else , you don't want it in your electrics...DON'T breathe the vapour...
Cheers

Cheers everyone, got some from Halfords this morning, so going to have a go at it shortly, before heading off on our second trip in the Bongo. :-)
