What's knocking?

Post by corblimey » Fri Apr 27, 2012 2:03 pm

Got the tell tail drop link knocking (again!) but where is it coming, front or rear?

Is there an easy way of telling which ones need replacing?

jack each end at a time, both wheels off the ground, and get in with a bar. leave the suspension hanging, that should show it.

the front bottom ball joint in the wishbone is the hardest to find as it only takes a little to sound a lot :?

take care under there.

if its front droplinks or antiroll bar bushes it will feel like a thump under your feet or the passy's feet. if its an unknown knock check the rear or the front wishbone balljoint.

Thanks for the info, I thought someone might say that. Bum, don't have space to jack it up since I've only got on road off camber parking :(

Hi
Pop round to your local supermart. carpark early morning, with jack and axle stands, and make out like it's a puncture
It'll work a treat...nice'n'flat
Cheers

There is a garage across the road that has a lovely flat yard!

The mystery is solved, just picked up my van from the garage and they say it's the wishbone bushes.

They couldn't get hold of any for 6 weeks, I've found a few on ebay, etc but I don't know what quality I'll be getting.

Can any recommend a source for decent ones please?

Just completed a front suspension rebuild. I opted for complete wishbones from Ava leisure not cheap though :( looking at the old ones not sure I'd know how to press them out.

is it the bushes or the bottom ball joint, if you need the whole wishbone try blueprint they do them but the 6 weeks wait sounds like them.
mazda dont have any in the uk, and are waiting for europe supply.
ava had some but im not sure if they have any left.
ian at bongo towers may have the last set in britain unless someone has mugged him. and if you ring him ask him for the OTHER SUPPLIER that he may know of.

Thanks for the replies.

The garage definetly said the bushes and not the ball joint.

There are some on ebay but I'm not happy buying them unless I know they are at least reasonable quality.

I'll give your suggestions a go.
