Bongo creaking like a spanish galleon!

Post by catzi » Thu May 24, 2012 10:37 am

Noticed our Bongo seems to have developed spectacular creaking noises which sound rather like a sailing ship. While I like the 'Master and Commander' feel while driving along, I think I need to sort it out.

I was thinking I should just spray some silicone lubricant onto the anti roll bar rubbers. While I'm there, is there anything else I should be lubricating?

Not posted for a while as the Bongo's had to take a back seat to our baby boy who's just turned one. Hoping to get out for our first weekend in the Bongo for the Jubilee weekend. A bongo, two adults, one baby and a dog...

Hi, if it's a metalic creaking noise it might be the rear anti roll bar bracket(s) which have broiken   and will need replacing. I was told they can be hard to spot and ours passed the MOT even though it was making a shocking racket

check the coil spring seats, both top and bottom they can wear through, and the front strut dust covers are usually split, try a bit of spray down the strut leg, the seal may be full of dried crud.

Hi, I can vouch for the rear anti-roll bar bracket, one of mine was broken and Bongo was creaking - kids thought it was great!

Had a new bracket fitted by 321-away on Tuesday and creaking has stopped, so worth a check. I don't know how easy they are to fit yourself? Anyone done it?

Good luck.

One of the rear anti-roll bar brackets was indeed broken. Both sides now replaced. Font drop-links also need doing but Campercraft in Kirkcaldy didn't have any in when the Bongo was in (for a new alternator) so they'll have to wait.
