Removing original speed stripes?

Just had my 1999 V6 hand cleaned with high power water hose. Some of the original speed stripes on the side have disintegrated. They appear to be just like decals. What is the best way to remove them?

All depending on how big the decals are .
If they are medium to large i would try using a Hair drier first, warm an edge up and with a BLUNT Stanley blade pick the edge and slowly peel it up once you have a good size to peel start to warm the bodywork with the decal on and move about 6 inches infront as you peel, this way you wont burn your fingers as you peel and heat the decal thats just peeled of ,try to get it of in big bits, after you have removed all the decal using petrol and a cloth ( NOT THINNERS as some people recommend ) soak a small area with petrol let it work the glue and using a old credit card type plastic srape the glue of , again once you have removed all the glue using a cloth with petrol wipe over bongo removing any small bits, then just give a quick Tcut and wash the bongo,
IF you are going to put new decals on make sure you wash the bongo and remove all the remains of the TCUT, and leave 48 hours.

If its a small decal like the one in this video i made use a toffee wheel.
buy from ebay for about £4 to £6
They are very easy to use BUT Do not put to much pressure on when using as it will remove the paint,
You will soon get into the swing with it and will fly through it. once done just wipe with your sleeve LOL wipe with a cloth and give it quick check for any remaining glue if there is any just wipe with petrol on a cloth.

You can use the toffee wheel for the larger decals but try the other method first.

Thanks for that helpful advice. The decal is like the bongo/Freda B1 that you supply so may well get a replacement from you. Thinking of going to get it done professionally unless you think it can be done by a reasonable DIYer?

To be honest something like that is very easy to fit.
Also if the decal is the same as B1 it should not of deteriated as the vinyl is 5 to 7 year unless its been bashed about.

The decal Was on the vehicle when imported by JAL Who I bought it from earlier this year. Not supplied by you. I have already fitted two decals from you but only small tailgate ones (MAZDA and Bongo)

I used a Vidal Sassoon hairdryer, an old credit card and some bug cleaner. Soon as you get it hot it flies off.. though i ddid have probs where the decals had been scratched pre import.

Ye it can be a pain when you get to chipped bits, comes of in little bits

Best method I've found over the years is hot air gun and sharpe nails, but nice and carefully

NO NO NO NO do NOT use Thinners. As soon as Thinners touches the paint work it is doing what it says on the tin. It might not be visible at the time but it has already done it job,
The amount of peoples Vehicles I have been out to with damage paint work due to removing glue with thinners,
And they want me to try cover the damage,
THINNERS IS A NO NO,

I would have thought .. household paint thinners .. like white spirit or turps would be OK..

But definatley .. not .. car paint cellulose type thinners .. like "cabte" says that would melt / strip the cars paint finish off ..!!

remove glue with neet car shampoo..no idea why i tried it but it seems to work

Try and remove stickers on a warm day..if you can find one
