Been that way many times in the days before the skye Bridge was built. The ferry crosses the narrowest point between Skye and the mainland, it is where the cattle drovers swam their cattle across all those years ago.you should try the original Skye ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea.
Be warned that you have to cross a mountain pass to reach the ferry from the main road, but don't worry it is no were as steep as the pass into Applecross. Before you catch the ferry take time to explore two of the best preserved broaches on the Scottish mainland. They are just off the road to the ferry about a mile from the ferry.
