The hold light is also used to indicate fault with the gearbox. If it is flashing in a pattern, then you can find out what it means by following the links here: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ng#p544843

throttle position sensor , common problem - it's basically giving duff info to the gearbox so box doesn't change when it should as it thinks vehicle is going different speed to actual.
Another common one is caused by the speedo chip some have fitted. This is the little chip fitted to rear of speedo wiring to make odometer click over in miles not kms. They should have 5 wires but often cheap ones [ or cheap fitters! ] dont have the fifth one connected to gearbox as it's a mare to fit this one whereas other 4 are fitted in minutes. This again means gearbox is getting duff info as speedo now works in miles but gearbox is still getting km info as it's not wired to chip, therefore it thinks it's going slower than it is so doesn't change up. Mine did this - took off chip and solved it.
As said before follow link to read the fault code [ takes 2 minutes ] and it will reveal the source of problem [ although it won't describe the chip fault ! ] i'm no expert but this was how it was explained to me and it proved correct.

If TPS faulty i think they can be found second hand but seem to recall not a fortune new and not difficult to fit. Don't panic these gearboxes are pretty sturdy , it's much more likely to be an electrical issue than mechanical.

Not seen him post here for ages but seem to think member by name of Alacrity is the gearbox specialist , you could try a pm.

maybe worth a check round the wiring harness to the pump, a bad connection may give higher resistance readings from the tps.
also saw one this week that had what looked like a speedo chip hacked into the pump harness, any signs of this.

no , no sign of that i don't think Northern Bongolow , see im thinking it worked fine before the fuel pump was removed and reconditioned and now it don't work , which was making me think it had been put back together wrong ...since my last post my garage tells me that he is not getting a variable voltage as he manually turns the POT. therefore thinking the the pot is faulty but is having problems locating one . any ideas
