Simon possibly, [or any one else], you can answer this back in one of your replies you made reference to a previous post about the difference to the size on the end of the pipe, do you know the out come of this ,as i think I might have sourced the part I want but don't want to make the journey in case its not going to fit. All i know is... The part number for the evaporator 61-P10 looks the same on all the years..? http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... o=.html#17

I would advise you got new O ring seals for the connectors to the evaporator though....

Try the Bongo towers quoting the O ring part numbers on this link... http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html They'll put you right!!

I had great service/help when i replaced the AC compressor on mine!!

Yeah I will jay at the moment Ive got Ian trying to source and price just the evaporator from Japan, as the breakers will only supply the whole unit, got nothing against taking the lot and just using the parts I need, [ possibly cheaper than the evaporator from Japan,] but it would be nice to have a new one just in case a used one turns faulty, cause lets face it it could be 17 years old [-X [-X [-X [-X [-X

With regard to the sizes, as far as I can see from this thread: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... g&start=15

the newer models have a larger fitting that the old ones. Not sure which year they changed, but hopefully then other chap Bongo?? or Ian should be able to verify the outcome. If you whip yours off, you'll get the definative answer.

UPDATE, this afternoon decided to go for it , removed a bit more of the wooden floor to get better access and drilled a 25mm hole to get to the third 10mm floor fixing, took off all electrical plugs and vent cables and undone the 10mm nut on the underside of the fan assembly , and the two Philips screws on the top, and indeed with a bit of jiggery pokery the assembly came out, went under neath to release the two bolts holding the metal pipes to the evaporator boy was the 12mm one tight used the old faithful wd 40 on it before it would shift, everything was spotless o rings in excellent condition, went inside to undo the clips holding the top of the casing got the end two and the ones along the front, but no way could I get to the rear ones, even loosened the jubilee clips holding the hoses to give me a bit more play still no joy, so reluctantly decided the hoses had to come off and loose coolant and worry about bleeding the system after this job , cut a short piece of tubing to make a loop so as not to loose too much coolant, with the hoses removed the whole unit came out nicely, just for the record it has to come out the evaporator does not extract whilst in situ as there is a plastic retaining bracket held in by two Phillips screws that you can only get to from the bottom, any way its all ready to change OR REPAIR now I don't see why the aluminium tube cant be soldered, after all the feeder pipe is only soldered on to the section that I have cut, there is an electronics unit near me specialise in made to order stuff I think I'll take it along and see what he says.

Wow! Looks like you've been busy....

I'm not sure about the repair....? But it'd be great if it could.......!!? I would be a little worried about the "swarf" (is that the word?) from the cut made in the evaporator running through the AC system.....??!! If it could be repaired!?? :)

Yeah but now its out I can flush it out with my jet washer. fortunately its never run since i cut it so whatever swarf there is will still be there in the pipe

for repair better talking to a refrigeration engineer as the pressures involved are a tad high.

In hindsight & fairness, the swarf may have been blown out by the pressure anyway.....?!

Not sure if a pressure washer is the way to go. Externally, the fins could easily be damaged, and internally, the A/C gas will have contained a synthetic (PAG) oil which will not mix well with water. A professional refrigerant engineer should be able to repair, clean and test it all for you as well as refill the system once you've got it all back together. Change the O rings too. After 13+ years of being under compression they will have lost much of their sealing properties. You don't want all that nice new gas leaking straight back out again :).

Hi,
You may struggle getting it repaired being aluminium you cant solder it needs to be welded usually a TIG welder but as its a small pipe it could become partially blocked by any penetrated weld and being that thin it wouldnt be that easy but may be worth ago? as Simon says you dont want to use water to wash it out with it doesnt mix well with the oil and refridgerant
