Air Con

Post by Steveoms » Thu Apr 25, 2013 6:07 pm

Hi All

New Bongo/Freda owner here. Great website.

I am looking for a little advice on the air con. If I press the aircon button while the fan is set at speed 1 the green light comes on and you can notice the change in engine tone but there is no blow from the fan and then if I change it to Fan speed 2 or above the green light goes out and the engine tone reverts to normal. Is this a common symptom?

Many thanks

Steve

Hi
Check out the fact sheet in the members area on fan speed resistor
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Hi

Yes I did find the members area, it just took me a while.

I am not sure that the fan speed electrics is the problem unless you can correct me. The air con light will not come on when the fan is set to speed 2 or above, the fan itself is blowing fine at those speeds.

Thanks

Does the fan produce any blowing at speed "1" without the AC on? (the fan is very weak on setting "1")

For the AC to switch off at fan speed 2 or more it sounds like a circuit overload - i.e. a fan problem, or a resistor problem.

Can't see how it has anything to do with gassing. Lack of AC gas just means the AC runs, but not cold.

Hi

No, there is no blow at all at fan speed 1.

Thanks

Then you have either a fan motor, or resistor pack problem. The AC will only switch on when the fan is on. I'm guessing in speed "1" nothing is happening, but enough to tell the AC it's OK to turn on. Then in speeds 2,3 and 4 there is a problem enough with the fan that the AC doesn't see it as being on.

I'd pull out the fan and service it, and also the resistor and check it out at the same time. It's an easy job

Hi

Thabnks for all the advice. I did notice today that if I have the front fan speed set to one and the air con on, the green light is on and the rear fan works at all speeds but as soon as you turn the front speed to anything above 1 the air con light goes out and the rear fan stops but the front fan works, albeit without aircon. I guess there is still either a fan or resistor problem.
