I can't pass on first hand observations on a 2Litre petrol as I have a V6 ..with four cam seals ..!!

Some 'wear' parts may be more age ..rather than mileage related .. the cam seals on mine are defiantly leaking oil over the alternator ..

Mine is a 1998 Bongo with a reputed (BIMTA) mileage of 76,000miles (just over 122,000km) on the clock ..

With the V6, it's good practice to change camshaft and crankshaft oil seals with the cambelt. They tend to harden with age and as its a big job to replace so it is more cost effective to change them while it's all in bits anyway.

I've no experience with the 2 litre engine, but would imagine the same principles would apply.

If I were you I would ask them to keep the old cambelt (assuming the 2lt has one) for you as you never refit a cam belt. :wink:

That's a good point: cambelts should never be re-used. They contain fine strands like fibre glass which stretch when under tension, but will be weakened once the pressure is taken off and re-applied. For the sake of £20 or £30 for a new one it's just not worth the risk.
