New tyres

I am new to the Bongo Fury club so please excuse me if I am in the wrong bit. I have just (today) bought my 1996 4wd bongo with a rear kitchen and have had to have new tyres all round. I have put on 195/65/15 95t all round and then have been confused by all the different posts and all the different tyre sizes. Can someone please advise me are these tyres safe for me to use? They should be 195/70-15 92 on the front and 215/65-15 96 (at least - rather than 95) for use on the rear axle.

Why did the tyre depot fit that size?

The relevant information is on a plate inside the drivers door opening.

The load rating is a bit low which may cause problems with insurance and (arguably) safety. Did the tyre centre recommend that size and rating? If so, I would be taking it back and asking them to put more appropriate tyres on.

Show them the plate inside the driver's door - it's at the back near the latch.

That tells them all they need to know to fit the right tyres.

everyone has their own preference, I have used 215's 100 rated all round for the last 9 years with no probs, mine is an unconverted flat top. Depends on what you are comfy with really.

Best to get 96 rated or higher all round in case you decide to even out wear through tyre swapping etc.

Having one size all round including the spare can make sense.

Mine came with 205s (sort of halfway between 195 and 215) all round and a skinny spare.

The back end gave me a couple of frights when the tread got low, so I would think that 195s on the back would be too skinny to hold the road well.

I was lucky enough to acquire some extra wheels and even more tyres, all 215, from a member who was breaking a Bongo, so I started using 215s on the back but still use 205s on the front. I'm now down to my last two 215s plus one spare of each size, all on 15" steel wheels, and have mixed feeling about what to replace them with. It is certainly more convenient to keep them all the same but my back end has never come away with 215s on there, even when well worn.

I'm convinced that 195s are far too skinny for the back of a Bongo.

When I bought mine it had 195/70-15 all round and handled like a 3 legged camel I bought a set of 16" alloys and fitted 215/65s all round - it was transformed.

I wouldn't use less than 215s now.

It also gives you the Correct tyre pressures.
