engine check light on dash - 2L petrol

an orange engine symbol with check underneath has stayed on is it telling me i need a service or is it more serious?

Welcome to the forum. What engine have you got as that will help determine the problem. There is no service indicator on the Bongo, so if something lights up it means you have a problem that requires immediate investigation.

What year is the vehicle,is it a Ford or a Mazda. or

its a 2005 mazda "city runner" 2ltr petrol engine

its a 2ltr petrol engine

I would guess its a problem with the emissions system, so possibly faulty lambda sensor in the exhaust. Have you had any work done to the van recently? Someone with the 2 litre engine can probably shed some more light on this for you.

I'm just down the road in chrstchurch do you know any "Bongo friendly" garages?

Have you checked your spark plugs, had one with a weak spark on my old car and that produced a check engine light.
Didn't have any missfire to point to spark plugs
