Evening all

I have had my oil leek fixed well it should be its not dripping like it was and were it was.

I have notice oil on the sump before I take it back could this be old oil getting hot and making its way to the sump were in connects to the bottom of the engine.could this happen it only seem to be on drives side of the sump.

Also could it be air dripping to there as well

Hi, my bongo leaks from a few places but most, even the best diesels seem to leak around the egr pipe. This is drivers side front of engine. Even with all my leaks it's never dripped on the drive as the engine guard catches it. Only time she messed the drive it was diesel from the pump

Are you sure it is engine oil?

Assuming you have a diesel, it might be a leaky pump. That runs down the driver's side and drips off the pump. So does the ubiquitous Bongo leak from up higher at the front of the engine.

Hi there it's a 20ltr petrol I may get the pump checked out is that on the drives side

Hi Dan, Frank and I are talking about diesels, I'm not sure about a 2 litre petrol. Usually if you have had a leak it will take a while for All the old oil to finally get to the sump. You could try a de greaser such as gunk and then see if you still have a leak.

Must be engine oil, then.

You certainly don't want a leaky petrol pump!

Petrol pump is inside the fuel tank, so you can rule that out .

Hi all

As per my problem I have been in touch with the garage then sold me my bongo I have told him its still dripping oil he has said it's the old oil that can't be clean from the engine?
He said as the engine is getting hot and the hot days we have had over the last few days the old oil is getting thinner and that's why is dripping. Can this happen or is he just taking me for a ride never heard of this happening before.

So I have said to him I will take the bongo back and I want to see for myself under the engine were i can show him were it is coming from.

How did the garage originally fix the leak? If they took the sump off and replaced the gasket they should have cleaned the mating surfaces up before fitting new gasket. If they just tightened up the bolts, then it is possible that the 'repair' has not been 100% sucessful. The engine will get hot and the oil become less viscous regardless of the ambient temperature so I would suggest either keeping a close eye on it, or asking the garage to clean around the joint to remove any old oil.

It icould be old oil, like the garage has said.
Oil can pool on the 'under tray', which has absorbent material on it, to collect oil. The tray is held on by bolts and is easy enough to remove and clean. If the oil leak has been fixed, cleaning the tray will stop the drips - the little oil that is still running down will be absorbed by the clean tray.
The tray is held on by bolts. It takes maybe 15mins or less to remove. When it's off, you can see more of the engine and check it's not leaking elsewhere.

If you fit a Fumoto valve... Here then you can change the oil yourself cleanly and with out the mess.... I have one on my Bongo and fit loads these days to modern motors where they have an ally sump plug and ally sump.... not cheap but no more changing sump plugs on those cars at £6 a pop.... You can get the plain valve or the extended ine and use plastic pipe to decant into bottles/old oil cans.....there will some spillage from the oil filter but that can be reduced by a 1 litre ice cream tub as it fits nice underneath it to catch the filter's excess
