My mechanic has fitted a new radiator, and all seems OK. But at the end of the process he was left with this plastic bit. What is it? Is it important? I'm off to France in a couple of weeks and don't want to take any chances.......

Thin end rests on the battery tray..

Fat end .. two holes are fitted into the rear of heater duct with two 'door card' type press in clips ..(Which I keep meaning to fit) ..

I suspect that many of us have this whatchamacallit lying around somewhere simply because even if if we could remember where to put it back, its purpose is not obvious and if we don't put it back on we won't have to take it off again next time.
Could anyone, other than Mr Inamoto, explain why the Bongo shouldn't work perfectly well with it left off?
Is it the one vital component that prevents catastrophic overheating?

Maybe it's just a splash guard to stop road water getting sprayed into the engine compartment ..??
