timing belt broke but but bongo fixed for £440

Post by martin70 » Fri Aug 09, 2013 1:38 pm

Got my bongo back and the parts replaced ...rocker assy, gasket valve and timing belt. The bongo 95 is running fine but is there anything to ask the garage about what they have done to ensure the engine is fine. They have said they used info on ford ranger engine and fixed accordingly. Many thanks

Make sure they fully understand the coolant bleeding process.

If they've had the head off, did they fit new stretch bolts? It would be worth getting the valve clearances checked after its all run-in for a few hundred miles.

hi and thanks
just checked the coolant level and it seems ok. The bongo has run about 200 miles and no probs. I dont know what they have done with the coolant and did this need bled? I assume if it needed bled and was essential then it would have been done?
Stretch bolts and valve clearances I will ask about but they seem to have done the job. I assume this has been taken care of.
The invoice does not mention coolant bleeding?
Thanks so much for responses dodgey and simon

Coolant bleed is essential.

Coolant level is no indication that it has been done, do make certain.

I'd just ask, explain you're new to Bongos (don't mention Bongo Bongo Land) and ask them to confirm that the system has been bled properly, and just for peace of mind, how long it took them, and/or which method they used.

This is perfectly reasonable, and if its less than 30/40 minutes then it possibly hasn't been done.

Although the Ford Ranger is the same engine the cooling system is very different.
