Depends what's in it just now, and whether you're doing a full flush or just topping up...

...and what engine you have. Total capacity of cooling system is about 13 litres, but unless you use vacuum or pressure, you'll never get it all out. If you are draining, flushing and refilling, buy a 5 litre bottle of antifreeze, tip it in and then make up the rest with fresh water. That will leave you with the required 50/50 mix.

thanks, just topping up and we've only just bought it so unsure what's in there. It's a 2.5 petrol. Is there different types/colours of antifreeze or do I just top up with water?

You can buy pre-mixed universal top-up coolant (yellow bottle, iirc). Other folk know better than I do, but you can't mix "red" with "green" or "blue" - they react together and can deposit sediment in the system. Water is probably ok, though you'll weaken the antifreeze properties.

Have you lost a lot of coolant? Suddenly? Over time?

is it a good idea on buying a bongo to get coolant changed so you know what's in there?

Standard coolant should be changed every 2 years so it's always a good idea to replace it if you have no record of when it was last done and with what type. You need to bleed the V6 using the same methods as the diesel engine.
