I meant differential oil, not transmission oil. I've edited the post accordingly...

Put it on level standing then and fill til it spills out then
I doubt .2 of a litre will be a prob
But on level standing it will run out

You need the van on a level surface to be able to get the right amount of fluid into the rear diff. I would take it off the ramps then slacken the filler off so the excess drains off (if there is any). Running with too much fluid may put extra strain on the oil seals as it gets churned around. As you have 2WD you have no transfer box to worry about :).

Hi GowerOsprey ,the vehicle need to be on the level when you are changing, refilling the Diff ,it should find its own level. Its worthwhile checking the diff casing breather while you are there.

Checking it's not blocked
Put a air line on it and blow it through ( from diff end , not from open end )
You don't want to blow dirt into diff

Thanks to everyone who offered advice over the last few days :-D

I managed to do everything I wanted (except for the exhaust, I'm leaving that to someone who won't strip all the nuts and bolts), and it seems to be working fine so far... [-o<

I have another few queries (the first of which is going to show just how much of a newbie I am to all this mechanical maintenance!), but I want to drain and change my brake fluid....how does one go about doing such a thing? I can't find the relevant datasheet on it, so can only assume it's too simple to bother putting down on (e-)paper for fools like me!

Second one to follow once I've bled your knowledge on how to do this.... :wink:

Replaced my brake fluid recently. Fitted new discs, pads and tidied up the rusty calipers:

Bought 2x 1 litre bottles but only needed 1. Don't bother with Gunsons EaziBleed kit as it doesn't come with a cap that fits reservoir. Tried to make one, but it didn't work. Easier with an assistant to operate the pedal while you top up the fluid and do the business with the nipples (on the brakes, not your assistant).

There is a correct order to do them which is in the manual which I think is start furthest from ABS pump and work towards it. Do a few stokes on the brake pedal with the nipple open until you see the fresh clean fluid coming thru. Worth going round each corner at least twice to ensure you've purged all the old stuff out.
