Hi all,
Just had to put my bongo into my local garage as it needs a new radiator.
Whilst they were looking at this they informed me that there was a serious diesel leak coming from the fuel pump.
This is a p reg 2.5 diesel flat top.
The mechanic told me that there is a seal gone underneath a sensor on the pump.
The mechanic is afraid to undo this as he isn't familiar with this pump and does not want to cause any damage by dis-assembly.
I have looked on the forum and been to lushprojects.com (very informative indeed) and have to say that the only thing that I can see on the pump is the magnet switch which to me unless I'm mistaken is the fuel shut off switch.
So my question is how hard is it to change the O rings on the fuel pump.
I will check with the garage when I pick it up exactly where it is leaking from and I'm no newby to spannering so have nothing to lose by having a go at this myself but plenty to gain as I have just come back from a 367 mile round trip and it cost me £95 in diesel so obviously things ain't right down below.
Are there any parts on here that are particularly difficult/fiddily or just plain impossible to reach.
Is it possible to replace these in situ or does the pump need to come off.

If the mechanic is not familiar with the fuel pump he might not be familiar with the cooling system either. In which case the leaking pump could end up being the least of your worries.
Make sure that when he does the radiator he (and some assistants) bleed the system properly. if it is not too late by the time you read this, drive home very cautiously in case it hasn't been bled thoroughly.

My thanks go to all who replied to this thread.
My local garage are brill and their only concern was that they were not familiar with the workings of the diesel pump and were a bit worried about taking it apart in case springs and small parts started flying across the workshop.
Anyway I showed them the copy of the Bosch pump manual and they said they'd try to strip it and see how it went.
anyway the mechanic spoke to me this afternoon and said that the leak appears to be cured (new O ring fitted) and will be ready to pick up tomorrow.
So happy bongoing hopefully lies ahead.
I will give a final update in a couple days when iv'e had chance to put some diesel in and see if it stays on the inside of the pump where it belongs.
