Sounds like the feed to the relay is at fault. Double check the switched feed is good to the coil and the earth on the other side of the coil.

Yup sounds like the Earth to the relay is at fault if you have 12v on the coil when the switch is operated. The earth wire goes to the same location as the actual light earths, and could easily be the black wire you have found floating on the nearside, which is where the relay is located.

I did earthed this rogue wire and also added a new earth wire on the other side. I try a continuity ( if thats the right word and spelling) test on the earths they might have a break in them. Thanks for all the help im learning every day
