Cleaning Electrical contacts
Spurred on by a previous post, I've bought a can of 'Contact Clean'. I would like to treat the roof raising motors. Have removed the plastic covers but, being an electrical dimwit, havn't a clue how to go about it. If anyone out there has performed this operation I would be grateful for any guidance.
Re: Cleaning Electrical contacts
What is the problem your trying to sort ?
There isn't really any contacts you need to clean in a motor ? There are only the brushes, which are carbon which press against the commutator and are self cleaning - unless there corroded up and not working at all.
If the motors look corroded on the outside or are not raising the roof properly (and its not the gas struts) then take a look at the factsheet http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... repair.pdf

Re: Cleaning Electrical contacts
Thanks for the reply. Looks like I got the wrong end of the stick!
The roof is not raising to it's full extent and the beeping does not cancel after it has finished going up. I had a dodgy open/close switch but have replaced that. That's about the extent of my knowledge on this one.

Re: Cleaning Electrical contacts
Ok, if its just the last couple of inches have you tried cleaning the chrome section of the gas struts, just wipe them down well and make sure they are clean all the way around. Then clean and lightly oil grease the sliders and the wheels inside them which run along the two rails top and bottom. If this doesn't cure it then its most likely that the gas struts are loosing pressure and need replacing see this company http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot ... azda/bongo
The motors might need a clean as per the factsheet as well and it shouldn't do any harm, but if there are no signs of damage or corrosion on the outside especially along the seam then I wouldn't get too worried about them.

Re: Cleaning Electrical contacts
Thanks for the info, I'll attend to the struts and runners!
