Air con belt is twelve quid from the Bongo Shop, and while the garage chap is doing the others I wouldn't expect much more labour.

Definitely worth it.

Yey! My Jonnie is fixed \:D/

Must say that the AA (part of my bank account) have been brilliant. They came out originally and did a temporary repair, so I could get it to the garage - sadly, the remaining fan belt didn't fancy the journey up to the garage and snapped ten metres from the house. I bought belts from a local motor factors and the AA came again to fit them. They turned out to be too small to fit, and he drove us over to buy new ones - they were out of stock, so he said call them out again when they came in - which we did, and he's now fitted all three belts brand new.

I can't quite believe the service they have given us - I feel very lucky, as I'm pretty sure that's not standard service!

So between you guys and the AA, Jonnie is now feeling much better - thanks again for being fabby =D>

.......silly question (again - what can I say, I'm gifted in silly questions  )

I've just driven over to Sainsbury's which is 1.5 miles away (first time he's been used since being fixed)

Didn't go over 30 mph

Was about an hour in Sainsbury's (parked in cool underground carpark)

On the way back, the fan came on and is quite loud - is this normal?

The temperature gauge was just under half way (normal for Jonnie)

Am I just not used to normal working noises because he has been without one of his belts?

Is Jonnie about to self combust?????

Did you have the aircon on
Or heating controls set to auto
Should think it was just the aircon bringing on the fans
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.

Nope - aircon is off and heaters are off.

This was the engine fan not heater fan.

Just don't think it's right for the fan to come on so quickly after driving so gently for a short distance.

Will take it to garage, but scared to drive it in case he self combusts! :? :(

I assume the mechanics checked water pump was turning freely with belts off, and turning properly with belts on. Be interesting to learn what's going on, and good luck. Keep us posted.

The air con does bring both engine fans on
Turns them on and off regually when using air con or auto on digi displays
You sure it's not turned on in the rear controlls
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.

Oh my goodness! I'm certainly living up to my name! Dizzy!!!!
I hadn't topped the water up since he broke down. Poor car was thirsty!!!!
....had to call the AA out yet again cause I overheated.
I am too stupid to drive!!!! #ohtheshame
AA man topped the water up, checked our oil and done a diagnostic check on him. He seems fine now he's had a drink

Be VERY careful :!: :!: :!:

If the coolant dropped below the bottom of the header tank he will need bleeding.

If this is the case driving your Bongo will cause head failure.

Edit: Not all breakdown guys know this, there have been quite a few cases where a patrol has just topped up and said, "Off you go, all sorted", only to have a catastrophic failure a few miles on.

Quite possibly, any idea roughly how much coolant the AA chap put in?

And roughly how long did he work on Jonnie? 10/15 minutes or biggest part of an hour?

Might be worth looking at the 3 videos on bleeding the system, this will give an indication if it was done or not.

No doubt a couple of our more techie peeps will be along soon.

Bob's right Dizzy - need to be certain it was bled like a bongo should be. How did it lose coolant in the first place?
