got a set a while back, like them tbh, not same as my teng tool set but handy to carry around in the bongo.

Asking for advise, just installed a vokera vision boiler after our brittany 2 water heater died after 18 years at home, now feeling posh having central heating for first time in 40 years. Ive fitted the rads and piped up. is it still necessary to have one rad without the trv where the roomstat is or do boilers now have a built in bypass loop.?

Plumbing history from a long time ago but like to keep my hand in.

I have some Halfords tool and their life time guarantee is hit and miss. i tried to exchange an item which broke and they refused and said how do we know it's one of ours. I replied with it's got Halfords written on the side, to which they said we still can not do anything for you.

I use the professional stuff. The beauty of the guarentee is that unlike others, they are open 7 days a week and you can just pop down there on a Sunday, when you are likely to break something and get it replaced. I've never had an issue, they've always changed the bits I've broken straight away.

They aren't as good as Snap-on or the like however they don't cost the same and see above for the Sunday opening!

Halfords used to exclude the ratchets from the warranty which are probably the part most likely to fail. I've got a Halfords Pro set & it has served me very well. It's a bit light on the 1/2" drive stuff so I tend to buy larger sockets as & when required.

Yes dream you should not ave a thermostatic rad valve on the room with the room stat in
You are correct most boilers do have a internal bypass now days
But the no trv is really so the room stat can sense the heat from the rad and will turn off if the sun comes out and it's a warm day
Energy efficiency
They seem to change that rule regually about every 5 years
Just take the trv head off of the valve

Hi,
Years ago when I was hitching through Cornwall I found a boxed set of Snap-Ons in a layby. Ratchet screwdriver, loads of bits, sockets, extensions and a ratchet handle.
Obviously been there some time because there was a bit of surface rust present, but they cleaned up beautifully.
Still got the set, everything in it seems unbreakable!

Obviously left there by some benevolent soul who knew they would come in handy. They might even have been liberated from someone's shed or garage for that very purpose . Talking of finding random tools in strange places, last weekend I did some work on my Volvo & discovered a very nice rechargeable LED touch stuck via its built-in magnet to the inside of the front wing behind the headlight. Bonus for me although confirms my suspicion that it's had some front-end repair at some point in it's recent past.

Funnily enough the only Snap-On tool I own is a set of long nose pliers that I found on the slam panel of my newly aquired Volvo 240 about 15 years ago!
