Gearbox Noise

Post by Griff & Tracy » Thu Jan 28, 2016 8:56 pm

Hi all

Could anyone give me some advice?
I bought a Bongo V6 about 4 months ago & for about 3 months there has been a strange noise. At first I thought it was coming from the front wheels but on closer listening it seems to be coming from the gearbox.
It only happens when drive is selected and I pull away. There is no noise when actually driving. It sound likes some kind of motor is kicking in. It doesn't happen in reverse just when I pull away - even when the engine is warm.

Any advice appreciated

If you pop a rough location in your profile someone near you might take a listen or we can likely recomend a good Bongo Garage to help out.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

I sometimes get a whirring / squeaky noise from the gearbox when pulling away when cold but its fine when hot.

Ah, Stockport. :D

That gives you Wheelquick, in Wigan, and Adrian at (I think) Jap Direct, in Bury.

Mike will confirm this. :D

I can confirm Adrian is in Bury. Then again if its a gearbox problem these guys might fit a replacement and/or send a faulty one for rebuild by a specialist but i'm not sure how much they would muck around with the internals themselves.

Adrian is a great guy. He'll tell you straight what he can and can't do.
