hi,
my bongo's rear wiper has stopped working. The rear washer is working ok. All fuses seem ok.
I have connected a battery direct to the wiper and it works ok.
Whilst the engine is running and terminals connected to wiper motor and stalk switch to 'off' position;
there is voltage to both white/violet and violet/white(earth?)
When switch to 'on' position, there is still voltage to both.
When terminal near wiper is disconnected, there is voltage to white/violet but no voltage to violet/white (earth?)
Any advice/help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Electrical help please

Re: Electrical help please
The most common problem and it would match with the test conditions your seeing is that the wires break in the the loom where they pass from chassis to door - top right corner of door in rubber convoluted tube - I would guess that the Violet with White stripe is broken and hence the earth from the stalk switch is not being carried back to the wiper motor.

Re: Electrical help please
hi,
thanks for your reply.
I have checked for a break in the area where you suggest but visually, they appear ok at that location.
Could it be a problem with the switch? It seems unlikely to me as the washer works fine.

Re: Electrical help please
The switch could fail, its not that a common a problem, but you can check at the switch itself and see if there is a voltage on the V/W wire when the wipers are OFF, it should fall to zero when ON, if its always zero then you have a break in the V/W wire, if it always stays high then that suggests the switch.
Its possible that the wire has broken within the insulation at the transition from chassis to door and you won't see an actual broken cable itself, run your finger nail along the wire and, sometimes, you can feel the wire broken inside (but not always!)

Re: Electrical help please
hi,
Is it difficult to access the switch? I've had a quick look but access doesn't seem obvious.
I will also check the wires again from chassis to door as you suggest

Thank you so much for diagram links.
Getting a bit dark to start dismantling but I will follow your suggestions tomorrow.
thanks again

Re: Electrical help please
Thank you very very much.
You were absolutely spot on, the break was exactly where you said.
I had checked that area earlier but obviously not well enough....
Quite fiddly getting wire through rubber tubing but all done and dusted
Thanks again
