water pump help please...

Post by papillon555 » Sat Jun 04, 2016 1:40 pm

hi,
So....I have raised the van and removed underside casing. There is a constant drip from the area of the water pump but cant quite see it. After looking at previous posts ( northern bongolow ) I believe it may be leaking from the 6 o'clock position.
Is there any advice on how to remove the water pump and as I am restricted by working/ lying under the van, the best method or advice please.

Many thanks

When Allan did mine he accessed it from the passenger seat, I think some of the job was braille, though.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

ha ha...
yeah...definitely braille....

I had read somewhere to access from underneath, remove the fan, loosen alternator etc. but what a difficult thing to do from a lying down position under the van and I've ruined my 'Sunday go to meeting suit' :-)
Managed to get it off and now need to source a decent replacement asap if anyone has advice.

sorry mate, just seen this now, ive been out polishing my bongo up ready for the big bash. (if you know me you will know im lying).

best tip for doing the job that you have by now done is loosen the bolts to the water pump pulley that hold it to the pump itself before loosening the belts.
the main reason i do it from underneath is to check the gasket is in place etc, but when removing the old one it does mean you can get a little wet :) :) .

hey...
thanks for the reply and advice. It was a little bit damp :D
Sort of did it from under and above.
I have ordered a new one to be delivered on Monday so hope fully can get it fitted and bleed the system....again....
next are the wheel arches and a bit of body work.
if you can recommend anyone in the Shropshire area for welding that would be great
where is the big bash?

Consider replacing the thermostat whilst you have the cooling system "broken". Preventative, but they do fail over time. Bit of a fiddle, esp on a 4WD.
