Not guilty m'Lud, I'm just posting the photographic evidence - this is what can happen when you leave your Bongo parked on Ady's (Northern Bongolow's) driveway and then go off on holiday....

Use the tow brackets to align the new crossmember as it bolts to it, this gives the correct positioning before welding.






Plug-welded & seam-welded in.






Plug-welds cleaned & painted.

thanks for putting up the pics paul, i just thought that the lady owner may like to see her bongo while she is away on holiday, i know she will be missing it.

Fab job there Ady - you can get NB out of a Bongo but you can the Bongo out of NB

im highlighting this really to show how its easy to miss this sort of corrosion, the crossmember itself didnt look too bad when quick looking, the bongo had passed an mot test quite recently,
as the mot screwdriver stab test isnt allowed any more if its buried behind the front grill/bumper and hidden under the intercooler scoop it can be hard to access. this one was obvious when the coolant radiator fell out then pushed the intercooler scoop down near the floor.

this is a good online mot site to check your bongo against if doing your own work.

If the MOT was carried out on that vehicle in the past FEW months I think the Tester needs to pay a visit to Specsavers.

At least a potentially very dangerous vehicle is Off the road.

Interesting to consider what the safety implications might be. For example, is that crossmember critical to avoiding a crash rather than just a breakdown. Anyone with professional knowledge able to comment?
