Front cab curtain and tailgate curtain

Post by callum » Sun Sep 25, 2016 9:47 pm

Hi folks,
What is the general consensus on these?
I notice that my tailgate has some tell tale signs of originally having curtains on it, just wondered what people who have them think?
The front cab one is particularly of interest. Although expensive, they do pop up on ebay quite often.
We do have thermal blinds and whilst i appreciate their merits, it is just another thing to carry around with us.
Mother in law is a seamstress so i can get some good quality funky curtains if i wish, but i'd like the nice countoured rail for the front.
Just my whimsy at the mo, but i think it'd be pretty cool to be able to close up like at home in your living room.
I should've bought a Bedford CF!

We had those Bedfords in work years ago, stick with the Bongo.

If your using thermal blinds your not going to gain much adding a set of curtains. They are convenient for privacy during the day if you want to pull down the blinds & curtains front & back for an afternoon nap or your getting changed etc. However they are no replacement for good thermal blinds at night. So you would still be carrying them around with you anyway if your overnighting.
I personally wouldn't go to the expense of adding curtains unless you want them for daytime privacy.

Cheers

Totally agree,I have thermal blinds on my unconverted Bongo.
Im soon getting a full conversion, but will still use the thermals,as against getting a set to fit around the cab

You see, i don't plan on many wintery camp trips.

I don't even know if i have thermal blinds for the 4 side windows, i assume not? So if not, do others fit thermals under the electric blinds? I dunno, seems a bit overkill to me.

I slept in my aunts AFT roof with my wife once in high winds, i wasn't ever really cold up there.

I sound like i've asked the question, but not interested in the answer, which isn't the case, i just have such limited space in the van and looking for shortcuts!

Hi,

The electric blinds are thermal (or should be), and are pretty good at keeping you cosy.

I have a set of silver screens for the front - they're a bit more fuss to put up than drawing a curtain, but warmer (and neater - since space is at a premium in the bongo). They store in the aft when not in use. We have a curtain at the back that I made myself - it's definitely not as warm as the screens, but I don't have a screen for the back window so it'll do.

We had a full set of the thermal silver screens when we used to sleep in the Bongo....and as you can see from my avatar we woke up one morning to this view and didn't even know it had been snowing overnight as we were that cosy in the Bongo...expensive for the full set if still available but well worth it for comfort and quietness..... =D> :)

We have thermal screens for a Ducato for the front and the sides and rear the seamstress made some from pound shop windscreen anti frost things (added some backing).
For day use we have a grey curtain strung up on a pole behind the front seats.
I have fitted original rear curtains (sourced from ebay).
the later 2 used mainly for convenience.

I have used Ikea rail for the rear with a homemade curtain. Doesn't concertina quite like Bongo originals.

Before installing the rail, I glued magnetic strips to the curtain which "stuck" IT to the tailgate metal.
