V6 Cylinder Head ?

Post by silverbongo » Sat Aug 19, 2017 1:03 pm

Hi Everyone,

Advice needed again please ... I have been told by my super reliable mechanic that there is a hairline crack on the cylinder head - does anyone know where we can source a cylinder head (with all gaskets) for a Petrol 2.5/V6 (2002) Bongo ?

Many thanks in advance.... :D

bongospares.co.uk - secondhand but will be skimmed and pressure tested, can't find any 'new' ones...hopefully the silver bongo will be back on the road soon.
Symptoms were a mysterious loss of coolant (top up from the low level on the expansion tank every few hundred miles) with no obvious leak. It got worse to the point where it was misfiring on idle. Mechanic took a look and saw water on a spark plug. "Tiny crack in the cylinder head and possible water coming up through the bolts" - the temperature guage has always been normal, so is there anything else we need to look out for? (I am wondering what caused it....if it wasn't for the misfire I'd still be topping it up and driving it.....)

i would just check the water pump first, these can be really hard to detect when leaking, and only usually leak under pressure when running. the leaking coolant could then be blown over the engine top and into the plug well.

posted this link to show how the water pump leaks but the pics are gone, #-o #-o #-o . anyone got them saved somewhere.

you need to get a dentist mirror with an angled head and place the mirror under the pump shaft, then shine a torch into the mirror. you may see a clean slug trail where the leaking coolant has cleaned the casting. a pressure test on the cooling system does usually show a leak on the water pump as the pressure can make it leak, a vac usually seals it.
worth a try if you dont know how old the water pump is.

Thank you for your reply, I will ask my mechanic to take a look at the water pump as well - the error on the images in that topic is the photobucket hosting link error noted here:-
http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... et#p694132

I was able to get the file names for the photos (right click on image in firefox, copy image location, paste into notepad and get the filename) and then search google images for that filename.

I was then able to see/copy them (too big to load here as attachments) . Fingers crossed she will be back on the road soon...

Yes if your lucky but rather labour intensive!
