Front and rear discs and pads (anyone done recently?)
95 AFT (old verions of Bongo not Aero)
Just wondered if anyone has recently done their disks and pads all round and where did you get them from. I will probably get my local
mechanic to put them on. But I do not wish to give them hassle with ill fitting or plain old.. not fitting OE spec disks and pads.
Never great when you ordered your own parts and then you get the call.."Your whatevers don't fit, there must be a few different types
for different years." Definitely to be avoided where possible.

Brakepads and brake discs are common to all Bongo Friendees of all types. But in many catalogues the only Bongo shown is the E-Series panel van (or Brawny) and these will NOT fit.
Genuine Mazda items are very expensive, but after-market versions from either Blueprint or Solid Ace have a good reputation.

Euro Car Parts do both disks and pads. I can't comment on the disks but I've fitted pads from them. They do differentiate between Bongos and Bongo Friendees.
Re: Front and rear disks and pads (anyone done recently?)
Make sure that the disks are of the vented type,on theses vehicles they show a P number change later on,its always advisable to get the Garage/Mechanic to supply the parts .If anything goes wrong with the parts you are not caught in the middle .
I would recomend the Bongo Fury Shop for your bits .

I fitted Apec brakes to our 51 plate van, I don't know if they're any better or worse than any other pattern parts but I've used them for years and had good brake performance and life from them.

Re: Front and rear disks and pads (anyone done recently?)
Thanks for the info, all useful.
I suppose I was hoping someone who actually fitted them this year for example and was 100pct happy with them could post
from where they got them as they would almost certainly fit then.
Hi Teenmal I got a tad confused there, get the garage to get the parts but buy them from Bongo Fury ? (Advise them to ?)
I noted when the wheel was off the back pads looked low (went through MOT fine mind you) and the disks looked very rusty.

The Bongo Fury shop is an option for You,your garage Will have a trusted proven supplier or might even use the BFS.
Hope this is not too confusing .
Take Care.

Ok thanks Teenmal, won't be doing it myself so garage it is. I have to test the jack yet (will do when I do some anti rust painting behind the wheel
which might be this weekend)

Re: Front and rear disks and pads (anyone done recently?)
I have done mine this year (or late last year) - although I can't recall the Apec part number, this old thread (linky below) suggests a part number for the front and rear pads. The Apec pads I fitted dropped straight in with no issues and work really well. Just for clarification I only changed the front pads; it was the only thing required at the time, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy Apec again.BongoBongo123 wrote:I suppose I was hoping someone who actually fitted them this year for example and was 100pct happy with them could post

Re: Front and rear disks and pads (anyone done recently?)
Great info, I will take a look at the wear/disks on the front first before proceeding but this stands me in good stead
for when the time comes. Checking the front disks it gives me a chance to test the replacement Halfords jack front and rear as well.

Brake shoes, I though they were only on drum brakes ? You mean the caliper ? Disks all round on Bongo. It was the pads
that looked fairly well worn on the backs that I spotted first so pads are being down without any doubt. Just need to see
what the fronts look like before I decide.

Re: Front and rear disks and pads (anyone done recently?)
The rear braking system incorporates a brake drum/disc with brake shoes to operate the parking/hand brake. The linings can part company with the shoes causing problems as you could imagine.

Re: Front and rear discs and pads (anyone done recently?)
Well yesterday I did some P.O.R.15 painting. The Halfords 1.5 Tonne scissor jack worked. It was however hard work getting the vehicle up. It cleared a normal fully pumped tyre from the ground. I would say for strength I am a 6-7/10 bloke so not a weakling but not Arnold Swarchnegger either ! Not to be sexist but unless it was a hefty woman it would be hard going, fact was I was breaking a proper sweat and have aching forearms and shoulders today. Still I know it does the job, just about.
Here are a few photo's of my paint work, my P.O.R is grey and mainly covered the shocks, axle ends and a few mounts etc. My mate who popped over said you seem to have made a job that did not really exist in some ways. But I felt I prefer to to take early action for the sake of preservation when it comes to any and all spotted rust. (And I need to know I could jack it after this little kerfuffle)
Pics uploading !!!
Halfords Jack and axle stands, (as you can see I would need the wood block really)
https://lut.im/IJrTjch3IT/BXLS9edbXupJMSxU.jpg
(The edge of the arch has a waxoyl coating that has been left since the winter I tend not to bother taking it off and leave asemi permanent barrier on the edge, collects the dirt a bit)
To my eye the rear disk pads look low, though not much of a lip on the disk itself just corroded edges
which i think it pretty normal. (before paint)

Not pretty but protected ! (after P.O.R 15 paint)

I did not get a chnace to jack the front and check the front disk/pads so will do
so asap on a flat section locally.
Pleased I got the painting sorted under there. P.O.R. 15 is awful stuff to get off yourself though
despite best planning still had it on my arms and a really awkward getting it off.
My dad commented and said that jacking point is almost 1/2 way along the side, no wonder it is a pig
to lift, and my mate kept saying looks like tractor suspension ! Ultimately you cannot expect it to lift
like an 800kg car when it weighs in at 2.2tonnes.
I suppose I am really a Bongo enthusiast now with kind of paint work, I suspect this is more than owners do. (touring season is not done yet either, but we have a break in our outings).I cannot do the really technical stuff on the Bongo but I will give things I can manage a go and suggest if you have time and a bit of a will to do the same and try and slow the rot down and protect your investment a bit.
