Nope, that wasn't causing it.
Turns out I need to replace the top engine coolant hose.
I thought the clip was possibly loose and causing the leak so I put a jubilee clip outside it and wiped everything down to see if the problem persisted.
When the engine warms up the hose bulges and the coolant comes out of the pipe through these tiny little pin holes, I can't even see them when I wipe it off but the coolant is certainly coming from there.

So I'm after taking out and replacing the top engine coolant hose.
Can someone explain to me why the water in the radiator didn't flow out?
I'm ready to start the bleeding process but I'm just wondering how removing this pipe didn't empty the radiator

Because it feeds the top of the radiator, from the top of the engine?

Oh right, yea that makes sense
Got the new pipe in and have the system bled now anyway.
So far so good, gonna be keeping a close eye on it for the next while to make sure I'm not loosing any coolant

HArd to see in the picture is that the hose or what it clamps onto?

Over the starter motor pipe. Check the other end where it clips to the heater system it rots away

Hi Alkers, yea it's actually the hose, that particular one has a double layer on part of it to protect it.
Thanks g8dhe, that's exactly what it was
Looks okay at the other side, replacement pipe is on the way should have it during the week.Northern Bongolow wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 5:20 pm Over the starter motor pipe. Check the other end where it clips to the heater system it rots away
Sickened cause the club shop was temporarily closed when I was looking to order that pipe so I'm sure I well overpaid for it

So I put the pipe in and filled it up with coolant and bled it as per the book, fairly painless experience given easy it is to access that pipe.
So I done something daft in that I removed some of the coolant from the header tank before replacing the lid to get the levels right without considering that the levels were higher than they usually would be given the temperature
Anyhow, I looked in the header tank this morning and it looked empty so the first thing I did was half twist the rad cap to see if it had gone further than that but it hadn't so I tightened it back up again. So I topped up the coolant and it only took maybe 300ml to get it within sight again but now I'm not 100% sure if there's a slight pocket of air in the pipe from the header to the radiator
Anyway I took it for a drive to get it up to temperature cause I wanted to double check it wasn't coming out anywhere, maybe I should have flushed all the coolant out of the pipe to the top of the rad but didn't think of it at the time.
Please tell me I don't have to bleed it again

Finally got around to bleeding it again
Didn't drive that van since my last post! Just wasn't worth the risk. That van never gave me an ounce of bother and even though it appeared to be running fine after the last bleed I wanted to be 100% sure that it was done right.
Can't wait to get it out in the new year
