AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavenger fan
Hi all
I’m browsing group but this is my first post
My Bongo 2,5TD 1996
Please help, Issues
ATF roof lift Up with no issues, then cannot bring down, sound stops beep when I push button, lights flashing
I checked most common issues what was mentioned on that group,
to manage to close roof I just connect battery directly to a motors.
checked switch, replaced ATF "computer" – no idea what else I shod check.
sensors sims to work as when raisin roof all things looks normal.
other things when driving, and engine worm up glow plug lamp start flashing - scavenger fan starts blowing (temp approx. 72) and continue to run even you turn of engine, remove key, to stop I disconnect battery, when cooled down works as normal until worm up.
checked sensor - disconnect fan still blowing.
Just give up today if you have any idea Please help.
Peter

Re: ATF roof problem & scavynger fan
Have you tried cleaning the switch in the front cabin roof, that controls Up/Down ? The switches get very dirty!
To get it out using the ignition key to depress the tab on the surround
Then open up the switch
clean the contacts.

Re: ATF roof problem & scavynger fan
The scavenger fan runs from the temperature sensor that is mounted under the handbrake handle and juts into the engine housing to measure the temperature, its controlled by the ECU and will shut off when the temperature drops but the question is why is it thinking the engine housing temperature is to high? Might be the sensor, might be genuine reason!
Re: ATF roof problem & scavynger fan
Thank you for answer
1 roof no is not a switch, beping sound gone when you press down - means is working (I cleaned just in case)
2 scavenger fans runs even i remove sensor, and is not hot there, must be a way to turn on this propably ECU , as i says glow plug lights start blinking
ECU detect issue and turn on fan, I have no idea why and what issue can triger this, strage is not turn off when you switch off ignition, afrer ECU reset is off untill you turn on ignition, when engine cool down works ok

Re: ATF roof problem & scavynger fan
There are quite a few circuits that are NOT controlled by the Ignition switch but controlled by the ECU itself which also remains powered when the ignition is off, this is normal there are engine functions that need to happen during cooling down etc.
With regard to the AFT, does the beeping stop on its own when raising the roof ? If not then it hasn't reached full height and operated the limit switches.
Does the beeping start again when you depress the Release button in the AFT ?
As to the scavenger fan have you read the error code from the diagnostic port ?

I do not raise fully but i can check that for you

Yes starts again, just stops when buton pressed
Scavenger - i need to find with one pins needs to be linked - and i will replay with results
can you pass link witch pins as i have dificult to find ?

on that page picture there is no pin "TEN" as they say to link with GND

Show us a picture of your diagnostic socket ?
You do realise the diagram is upside down as shown as its from a different Mazda vehicle from the Bongo.
"just stops when buton pressed" which button are you pressing that stops it ? When its Beeping then the Up/Down switch should work, but the beeping will stop if you drive it UP when its all ready fully UP

Yes I know just look at picture is match exacly what i have and find pin "TEN"

when rise up works normall - as usually i do not see any difrents as always was
when press down Beeping stops, when release button Beeping starts again, nothing else happens
after that press UP and roof rise as normal do not stops Beeping

As an aside I'm editing this post because it's an AFT query NOT an Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) query. Makes it easier for searching in future.

Re: AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavynger fan
As regards use of FEN and TEN pins are you a MANUAL gearbox ?
If not then you need FAT and TAT pins which are for the Automatic gearbox see below:
Flashing HOLD or flashing GLOWPLUG light means the computers Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Power Control Module (PCM) that make up the Engine Control Unit (ECU) are telling you that there is an error, it can be a simple fault or a complex fault, lots of error codes, you need to use the diagnostic socket to find out what particular error is being reported. See here for the earliest error codes (2-digit), but over the versions several other codes (4-digit codes) and methods have been used, post 2001 there is often a OBDII connector to the left of the steering wheel under the dash as well;
www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm
PLEASE NOTE!! When using the older diagnostic connector;
FEN & TEN pins are for MANUAL TRANSMISSION
FAT & TAT pins are for the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
The simplest reason for a Flashing light is if the batteries have been disconnected - the backup supply will have failed and the setup data lost, it will be reset after the next run!

Re: AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavynger fan
I have Automaic transmission
flashing GLOWPLUG
corect me if I'm wrong
need to link TAT and FAT to read fault code from dash
one at the time
or do I need to connect some LED to a diagnostic port
on description they says that related to:
TAT Diagnostic-mode input (automatic transmission control computer)
FAT Trouble code output (automatic transmission control computer)
not Diagnostic-mode input (engine control computer) is that correct to show engine fault
I'm completly confused

Re: AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavynger fan
With an automatic gearbox you need to link the;
TAT, pin M to Ground which is E or V pins on the diagnostic socket with a straight link.
Then you need to use a small 12v bulb or LED for 12v working;
FAT, pin F via the lamp to the +12v pin (Battery) on pin D, if you use a LED then make sure its connected with the correct polarity.
Then you will be able to see the flashing error code.

Re: AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavynger fan
Hi Geoff and all interested.
I try to make diagnostic today, connected as Geoff described, unfortunately there is not any sign of activity, checked twice. bulb are ok tested
Another think, I can live engine running and nothing happens until start driving.
I know that AFT roof system checking speed as well.
I do not make any progress at all with issues, Speedometer works ok on dash.
Glow plug lights start blinking when engine worm up and stay until cool down,
If there is any idea what’s more I can do, please advise.

Re: AFT ( not ATF) roof problem & scavynger fan
Any error code will only exist whilst the hold/glowplug light is flashing, if the light is not flashing then the error codes don't exist.
