Power to window blinds when parked

Post by Bongolian » Wed Sep 03, 2025 12:26 pm

Hey folks, I wondered if anyone had wired up their electric blinds to allow them to be operated with the ignition off.?

I’ve got into the routine of closing three of mine, then climbing in and manually pulling down the one for the side door, but ideally I would like to be able to move that one with the ignition off.
I have a leisure battery and additional lighting inside, would adding another live feed (from the leisure battery supply) to the switch allow the blinds to be operated from the local switch with the ignition off.?
Or is there more to it than that.?
Any experience/advice much appreciated.

Yes that is the usual arrangement. A total of 4 circuits are diverted for most uses from the internal fuse panel;
Top left - unswitched 12v supply divert to LB,
Top right - Ancillaries, sockets, radio etc.
Top row 2&3 from right drive the blinds - divert these to the LB for use when static and ignition off.

Thanks Geoff.

I assume that would mean all blinds are powered from the leisure battery at all times.?
I’m also guessing the switch on is on the earth side of the circuit.?
And if I were to lazily attach a feed from the leisure battery to blind positive side with the existing supply still in place, it’d effectively join the two batteries together, potentially causing grief.

As it’s only the side door blind I’m interested in, is there a ‘normal’ method for that.?

Apologies, my lektrickery skills are limited :D

Ah, no don't make assumptions! First yes on LB when static, but when mobile then your charging systems be it SCR or DC-DC will effectively parallel the SB and LB and when driving then its the alternator that takes the load not the batteries!

Second, the switches reverse the power connections, to allow up/down and because the two dashboard switches deal with them offside/nearside and only the local switches handle each blind on its own, so the switches handle two poles and reverse connections as needed.
You can't easily just control one switch move BOTH sets of circuits across otherwise you will have to intercept the looms themselves which won't happen!

Thanks again Geoff..
I see, the switches are a bit like those for the light on my landing, they can affect each other.
I reckon I’ll go for the ‘analogue option’.. I’ll leave it be and simply get maself a stick-on blind to keep out the light. :D

Its very simple to swap over to the LB, not sure why you wouldn't do it that way, then they can be used at any time.
Just pull the existing two fuses out, link the lower connections of the fuse holders back to the LB fuse holder, and use the two pulled fuses in the fuse holder close to the LB to complete the circuit.
