TCC Solenoid - new gearbox needed?

Post by moss_fox » Sun Sep 21, 2025 10:44 am

Hello fellow Bongonauts,

I've had the hold light flashing since I bought my Bongo earlier this year. The garage diagnosed this as a faulty torque clutch converter solenoid, and said that because this is internal to the gearbox, I'd have to replace the whole gearbox.

Is this really the case? The solenoid isn't replaceable on its own? They quoted me £1.5k to fit a second hand replacement gearbox which is currently out of my budget. The van is currently driving completely fine, no issues with transmission as far as I can tell, but I do understand that this is probably going to get worse at some point.

Van is a 2.5l V6 petrol automatic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The solenoids are available, normally as a pack, to change yourself, but make sure you get the right year of gearbox as they changed a Google search finds references! https://www.google.com/search?q=mazda+b ... +solenoids
Gearbox manual http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/Gearbox/RC4AEL.pdf section 5-13Y-29 covers the solenoids this manual only covers one type of solenoid plate but the other type is quite similar.
