small glass in passenger window

Post by trekie » Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:21 pm

hi all,
has anyone done a DIY window replacement on the front, passenger door :?:
i had my main glass put in by autoglass but it was going to be weeks before they could source the smaller glass so, i got one from bellhill and i dont think A/G will put it in for me under the original job sheet. i couldnt get through to them today by phone even though they are normally open on a sunday. anyone got any pointers?

I have a feeling in me water that this topic has been raised before, with quite a bit of discussion on exactly how to do it.

Try a search on quarterlight glass.

If i remember correctly, you will find a couple of bolts holding the channel in place for the quarter glass. It is a shared channel for the main window in the door. I dont know if the main window has to be extracted, to enable the new glass to fit. I have had the quarter glass "moving" in the past, when i undone the wrong bolt to remove the mirror  but whether its enough "play" to fit a new quarter is anyone's guess. If you check out my PM trekie,we may be able to sort it then.

hi ste,
ive already had an exploritory poke around in the door and its looks as if the main glass has to come out first so that the runner can be removed to slide the 1/4 glass and its seal into position. i will try and find that thread.

cheers
