sender unit

Post by karena » Fri May 04, 2007 11:24 am

bongo arrived yesterday we bought it privately and were made aware that there were one or two defects one of which was the fuel gauge not working but the seller had ordered a sender unit, which would arrive with the van So there we were last night trying to work out what type of sender unit this could possibly be. Finally looked at the parts invoice and discovered it was a central locking unit.I know from the tips sheets that we may not actually need a sender unit but the dumb question is how do we get to the tank can we lift the carpets or do we need to go underneath.?

More worryingly when the vehicle is rocked whilst stationary (not what you think) there is an awful clunking from underneath any ideas what this could be is it normal ?
Other than this I was thrilled with the van and can,t wait to get out on the road (no tax until insurance cert comes) hope this clunk isn,t going to bring my dreams crashing down.

Fuel sender unit is under the middle seat on the right of centre. Can be got at buy "peeling" back the carpet from the back. I expect you can fix it by replaceing the earth wire. Very common fault.

The clunking when rocking could be a number of things. Get the suspension/roll bar bushes/joints checked out. I would wait till you drive it and see. If it has just had a MOT it shouldn't be to serious. Could be somthing simple like the exaust knocking.

I dont know about the sender unit, but the clonking is most probably the anti roll bar bushes, and in some cases the actual bracket can snap... its no big expense, i think they are only a few pounds each (bongobits etc.)

The clonking is also cured someone had left a bolt undone when they replaced the bushes.
