I have welded a Golf head once but that was out side the combustion chamber, don't think I would trust it inside. It also means stripping the head re-seating the valves, having it skimmed, pressure tested and no guarantee as I welded itdave_aber wrote:Used to be the case you could get heads repaired - welding up between the valve seats wasn't uncommon - is that an option?

The valves on cylinder 2&4 appear closer, probably cos those valves are open at that position of stroke.
Isn't that the "usual" place that cracks appear?

I just had a thought phoned Ian today to order the new head and if his deliveries are like his emails I will have 11 heads arriving this week![]()
