Further to Diplomat's idea above, if you don't want to go down the starving baby route, there are various websites where you can pre-register a phone for tracking. You only pay when you decide to track it.

Bear in mind if you use a Pay As You Go phone you will need to make or receive a call from it at least every 6 months, most contracts terminate after this time if you don't.

You just have to phone the trakm8, hang up and it will text you back its location

I've got a phone that I only use for speaking to my sister, so it only gets used about every six months.

Just got a text from her saying that there are mice in the airing cupboard. Obviously she sees that as my problem!
