Not uncommon with these modules in a Bongo they are all microprocessor controlled and so a reset by turning off all the power can achieve what is required! The switch on the dash only appears to disable the display etc. not actually switch the system on/off so disconnecting the fuse sometimes helps if its the only source of power (not always the case of course!).
