Fitting 110aH Leisure Battery - tight squeeze?
I'm going to get my 85aH Leisure Battery changed (due to it being faulty) and thought I'd take the opportunity to get a bigger one - been advised on a 110aH. I believe it's a bit of a tight fit (I've got a willinton tray) so was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers regarding fitting it so when I get it and can't squeeze it in I will know what I need to do!

Open the bonnet, take out the old battery after disconnecting it, then put in the new one
Just make sure all the leads are out of the way & the hose that goes to the rad from the header tank may have to be pushed out of the way to wiggle it in, easier with two people as you're fiddling around behind the bonnet prop.

Thanks Kirsty - sounds easy the way you describe it!missfixit70 wrote:Open the bonnet, take out the old battery after disconnecting it, then put in the new one![]()

Re: Fitting 110aH Leisure Battery - tight squeeze?
I fitted a green Numax 110Ah (the battery willinton states as the biggest he could fit in the space) onto my willinton tray. I goes in OK although getting the battery clamps in place and tightened up, with some extra wires I have coming from them, was a little bit tight. The problem is simply that the LB is heavy to be having to manouvre into the space. But don't let me put you off - it wasn't hard, and I'm an older not very strong bloke!
I've got a little alarm bell ringing that someone on here said Numax may have updated the 110Ah LB so check that whatever battery you get it doesn't exceed the dimensions of the old green 110Ah. Also that terminals are as per the Numax so everything fits in OK

The 113ah Numax one that Freewheeler got is slightly dimensionally smaller than the 110 wierdly

Which reminds me, though don't know why, that I have a mental note the carbon elecsol (or something like that) type fitted by (I think) Ron Miel may be the best type of LB to fit in order to get the best balance between a LB that is happy being discharged and yet is capable of handling higher discharge amps without voltage drop. Might be worth PMing him for views if you can get through to him at his campsite in deepest Norfolkmissfixit70 wrote:The 113ah Numax one that Freewheeler got is slightly dimensionally smaller than the 110 wierdly

Usual dimensional limitations apply

My Numax 110ah is a deep cycle leisure/starting battery, rather than a dedicated LB, haven't looked into the technical comparisons, but it's good enough for me with a decent gaurantee

Re: Fitting 110aH Leisure Battery - tight squeeze?
I think the larger batteries will fit snugly ,but i also think it depends on how many relays there are at the side on the wing, and whether those limit the fit under the bonnet. some people have cut the wing slightly to make the battery fit ,but i don't think they have the Willinton battery tray which seems to be lower down in the space provided.
Why not ask the battery supplier (if hes local to you) to try and see if it fits under the bonnet, with a potential sale I'm sure he will be more than willing.

The relays shouldn't limit the fit TBH Mike, mine has 3 relays there, fitted 3 or 4 now for various peeps, as you say the lip of the wing is a tight fit, but I've not needed to trim anything yet, the standard battery tray will need to be modified to fit the larger LBs, but the willinton tray is spot on ( & cheaper than buying the standard one new aswell ).

Re: Fitting 110aH Leisure Battery - tight squeeze?
I've got an Elecsol 100 Carbon Fibre Battery (not a 110 as it wouldn't have fitted (ie theirs wouldn't have - can't speak for any others), so I suppose this doesn't necessarily answer your question) but I'm really pleased with it. It's had a lot of use since we bought it in April, but I'm not sure how much abuse it's had (ie how low we've let the charge go). Behaving beautifully though.
I didn't put it in myself but was told that it was nice and easy (albeit heavy!!)
