Re: Easter-Cairngorms
I guess that you are heading for the north of the Cairgorms around Aviemore rather than the south of the Cairngorms around Braemar. The north was much more comercialised when I was climbing the Munros years ago. I prefered the peace and quiteness of the south so climbed most of my Munros from that direction. If going for the hillwalking then you have a long walk in to the tops whichever way you go.
The are quite a few Bongo owners to the north of the Cairngorms and even one in Aviemore itself, they should be along soon to update you on the area.

Re: Easter-Cairngorms
Good Choice. If hillwalking is your game you are central for the Southern Cairngorms, the Glenshee Hills and Lochnagar on the Balmoral Estate. Just two drinking holes when I was last there 20 years ago, both within hotels. The Fife Arms Hotel had an insitu bar and the Invercauld Arms Hotel had the bar in a separate converted farm building. The later brings back many memories, it is where my nephew learned to drink at the age of 14 (but he was a big big lad for his age) and where we once got thrown out for having a rumble with some local lads with whom we had made friends. (we got let back in the next night though).

Re: Easter-Cairngorms
I remember that campsite but have not stopped there myself. In my pre bongo days I either stopped at the Bunkhouse when I was in Braemar or camped out in the wilds. I don't think that the campsite has anything to do with the hotel which is about half a mile further north.

Re: Easter-Cairngorms
why not drop in at Glenshee on the A93 between Blairgowrie and Braemar for a snowboard lesson - or a an hour of sledging!! there is a very good chance the snow is going to last!
there are huge drifts even at the road level that haven't been seen for decades

Re: Easter-Cairngorms
The problem with Glenshee is that everytime there is a bit of snow they close the roads. In these Health & Safety days everything has got to be geared to the idiots in two wheel drive cars with summer tyres. Years ago before the onset of Health & safety, although it was not windy or snowing very heavy the would not let me go up to Glenshee from Braemar despite my having snow chains on my Saab. Bummer.

Re: Easter-Cairngorms
I'm hoping by Easter the snow will have departed these shores except on the top of them big hills
Looking forward to it as I've only been to Edinburgh to see the Tattoo many years ago when I was a wee nipper.
Only had the Bongo since Aug 09 so hoping to get out and about abit more this year
