Alarm, interior lights & leisure battery - suggestions pls

Post by Simon Jones » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:34 pm

I fitted a leisure battery a while back & did the usual trick of re-patching the feed in the fusebox back to a new fusebox on the LB. This covers: interior lights, radio & electric blinds on both sides. In addition, I've put in a switched relay so I can power them from the main battery when required.

The alarm works by sensing he voltage drop created when a door is opened & the interior lights come on. When alarm & lights run from the main battery it all works fine. However, when I transfer the lights to the LB, I get a warning chirp when arming the alarm because the lights are powered by a different battery to the alarm so the whole voltage sensing thing fails.

It seems there are two (unworkable) solutions:

1) Leave interior lights running from main battery, but these are exactly the things that result in a flat starter battery
2) Transfer the alarm over to the leisure battery. However, its all wired into the ignition system for the immobiliser & central locking which need to be on the main battery.

What do all you other folk do with alarms & leisure batteries? Suggestions welcomed :)

Though i don't have a LB.. The problem you have arises from the fact that you do...
I had a similar voltage drop sensor system fitted to mine until it did me a favor & decided to die on me!! \:D/

My opinion is you need to do away with the principle of the voltage drop regarding the set up you have.

The system i have now senses door opening from any of the existing neg triggers for all the doors & tailgate courtesy lights.. Including an extra fitted to the bonnet, shock sensor, plus a microwave sensor fitted under the rear end of the center console!!
Its also self powered & will go off if the battery's disconnected...

I found it pretty versatile regarding the other gadget bits i fitted too!

For security reasons i could send you a link if interested..?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Thanks Jaylee - I'd be interest in that, especially with the extra closure bits you've added.
